
Belarusian engineers have developed a universal gas engine
A new engine has been presented in Belarus. This is a gas MMZ-262NG. It runs on methane, which is why it will be cheaper to operate. And the power unit is much more environmentally friendly than diesel and even gasoline analogues.
This is not a bi-fuel engine, but a gas engine. It can only run on methane, both compressed and liquefied. Everything will depend on the equipment and the type of cylinders installed on the vehicle.
The new engine has a capacity of 7,98 liters. It has electronic gas injection directly into the cylinders - this ensures the reliability of the fuel system. It is important to understand that this is not equipment from a third-party manufacturer installed on a standard engine. The power unit is specially designed for the use of gas.

One of the main advantages of the new engine is its versatility. With a volume of almost 8 liters, it is suitable for a wide range of trucks, tractors и of buses. The same applies to power – it can be in a wide range – from 135 to 292 hp. Most likely, the most productive power units will be equipped with turbines.
In addition to its versatility and fuel cost savings, the new engine is highly environmentally friendly. The power unit from the Minsk Motor Plant emits 65 and 80% less nitrogen oxides and solid particles into the atmosphere than standard diesel engines. Moreover, it was compared with modern engines equipped with Euro-5 class catalysts.
The MMZ-262NG has other advantages. For example, it works much quieter than diesel engines. And compared to gasoline power units, it seems almost silent. Due to the properties of the fuel, vibrations are almost imperceptible. This was achieved by injecting gas into the cylinders and ideal proportions of mixing the combustible mixture, controlled by electronics.

The manufacturer claims that the resource of the new engines exceeds not only the parameters of gasoline analogues. MMZ-262NG will work longer than diesel "brothers". And this can be easily confirmed even now, in theory.
Firstly, methane gas has a higher octane number. It burns longer, and there are no unplanned detonations. When using this type of fuel, not as many impurities are released as in the case of gasoline and diesel fuel. Therefore, carbon deposits do not form in the crankcase and channels. When running on methane, oil retains its properties longer and does not become contaminated as much.
It is not yet known when the serial production of MMZ-262NG will start. But they definitely promise to put this engine on the conveyor.
