How to remove snow on railway tracks and airfields

Everyone has seen how snow is removed from streets and country roads: KAMAZ trucks and other vehicles with large blades throw the precipitation to the side, to the side of the road. Less common is special equipment that collects snow and through auger devices “transfers” it to the one coming from the side or from behind truck. And how do they deal with snow drifts on railway tracks and airfields?

Here the imagination of the designers is more sophisticated: for example, plow mechanisms, various “blowers”, screw-rotor devices that “easily” demolish meter-long snowdrifts are used to clean the rails and sleepers.

Cleaning airfields has its own specifics: one of the latest proposals from the Dutch company is a technique that combines three methods of snow removal at once. At first glance - nothing new: precipitation is raked in by the rotor and fed through the conveyor to the truck. However, there is an important “highlight”: before getting into the car, the snow is compressed, which reduces its volume by 66%. You can see how rainfall in the amount of 26 m3 fits in an 18 cc body on the TechZone channel.
