PD-35 engine one step closer to certification
For the first time about the project of a new heavy transport Aircraft in Russia they started talking about it back in 2016. The key part of the aircraft was supposed to be a domestically developed power plant. Especially for this aircraft, truck» the PD-35 engine was created.
The design and launch of the engine took almost eight years. The figure seems impressive, but in fact it is ahead of the standard timeframes for production of this scale. Now the power plant is one step closer to certification, as the first stage of testing has been successfully completed.
Unfortunately, no specific projects for the "transporter" have been provided yet, but progress in creating an engine for it is a sign of positive development dynamics. It is expected that advanced Russian composite materials will be used in the design of new aircraft.
They will significantly reduce the weight and increase the strength of the body. The new aircraft should replace the "tired" An-124 and in terms of the characteristics of the power plant it already surpasses it.
The PD-35 unit, as follows from the index, is capable of developing a thrust of 35 tons. For comparison, the An uses a turbofan D-18T. Its indicator is limited to 23,4 tons in takeoff mode. But this does not prevent the Ruslan from transporting up to 120 tons of cargo, which also means an increased carrying capacity of the upcoming "transporter".
Completion of the first stage of testing of the "Prospective Engine with 35-ton thrust" became an important step towards the development of heavy transport aviation of the Russian Federation. Domestic engineers are now even closer to the release of a worthy alternative to the An-124 "Ruslan", of which the country has a serious shortage.
