Korean Auto Brands Return to Russia – KGM, Former SsangYong, Will Make It Official

South Korean company KG Mobility, also known as KGM, is returning to the Russian market. The brand will offer crossovers with internal combustion engines, hybrids and electric cars in our country.


It only seems at first glance that there was no KG Mobility or KGM in Russia before. It is enough to look at the model range of crossovers, as well as hear their names, and everything falls into place.

It turns out that this is SsangYong, which is well-known in our country. Only the company has changed its owner, while retaining the most popular crossover models. The new owner decided to rename the brand. He believes that the success story should be started from scratch.


Only they decided to introduce the new model range gradually. This is right - why give up something that enjoys a small but stable demand? It is better to supplement the line.

In Russia, the Korean crossovers will be sold by Rex Motors. The official debut date is already known. It will take place in the first quarter of 2025. Sales will start a little later.

Let us recall that the current KG Mobility lineup currently consists mainly of crossovers. They also have a couple of models of frame SUVs, but, according to the information we have so far, they will not be offered in Russia. We are only entitled to crossovers with front and all-wheel drive.

It is unknown which models will be offered in Russia. But Rex Motors said that certification in our country has already begun. They are also forming a branded dealer network. All this hints at the fact that the former SsangYong has its sights set on the Russian market.


Representatives of the South Korean brand decided to take advantage of the situation with economic sanctions against our country. Currently, the Russian market is officially represented mainly by Chinese brands. People have already gotten used to them, or rather, have come to terms with the fact that only such crossovers can be purchased with a guarantee.

Appearance cars KGM, some of which are rebadged SsangYongs, can change the situation. If they were previously treated with caution, now they will win against the Chinese models. After all, SsangYong is Mercedes-Benz technology plus Korean assembly.

The management of KG Mobility hopes that the "Russian reboot" will be successful. However, without knowing the prices, it is difficult to predict anything in advance before the start of sales. By the way, KGM crossovers are already being offered unofficially in Russia.
