Russia to have 14 auto parts factories – project implementation scheduled for 2025
The Kaliningrad Region may acquire new factories for the production of automobile parts. In total, Avtotor is going to build 14 enterprises from scratch. The implementation of the global project will start in 2025.
The level of Avtotor's seriousness is evidenced by its level. After all, the opening of the production sites was presented not by the heads of a private company, but by the regional authorities. After this, the project will definitely have to be implemented.
By the way, the work has already begun. The first stage of the plant for the production of engines for electric cars opened in August 2024. When this enterprise is put into operation, it will be able to assemble up to 60 thousand engines per year.
The Kaliningrad Region authorities believe that Avtotor should be helped as much as possible. After all, it is the only domestic manufacturer that is determined to develop and produce Russian cars.
And let them assemble Chinese models while the process of import substitution does not stop. Moreover, the manufacturer is going to produce cars of its own design. And 14 new factories are a clear confirmation of this.
The only Russian manufacturer that can be called domestic today is AvtoVAZ. But even the most budget models of this brand, like Lada Granta and Niva, are produced using foreign parts.
The economic sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation in 2022 did not teach AvtoVAZ anything. They simply changed their suppliers - European ones to Chinese ones. And if some parts were still imported, then most likely it was forced.
From the recent one, we can recall September of this year. Then the production of Lada Granta was suspended due to the lack of gearboxes. As for the new engine from AvtoVAZ with a volume of 1,8 liters, in its production they actively use parts from Chinese and Turkish brands.
Global localization and the emergence of new models will help reduce prices for cars. After all, before the departure of major global manufacturers from the Russian market, our country had enough affordable budget cars.
As for localization, apart from AvtoVAZ, only one brand does it – Haval. They have a full production cycle, including engine assembly.
Therefore, the construction of 14 new plants by Avtotor is a breakthrough in the Russian automobile industry. By the way, five production sites will start functioning by the end of this year.
