The updated Toyota 4Runner has become the most powerful in the history of the model

At a dealer conference in North America, the Toyota brand officially presented the new generation of 4Runner. The SUV will go on sale before the end of autumn, but the manufacturer has not yet announced the price.


The model is available in nine different trim levels, from the basic SR5 to the premium Trailhunter version. This solution will allow you to optimally select the configuration for yourself, depending on your needs and budget. car.

At the same time, the modifications differ not only in equipment, but also in visual terms. For example, the version with the Platinum prefix is ​​more “sharpened” for urban use.


The SUV in this configuration received some design solutions "under the sport", supplemented by darkened elements. The latter include bumpers, side mirrors, wheels and headlights.

In addition to urban options, Toyota has also prepared off-road configurations. The most striking in this regard was the Trailhunter. In some details, it resembles the TRD Pro, but with a number of unique features.

These include LED spotlights and off-road tires. On the technical side, there is a rear differential lock, as well as slightly higher-positioned air intakes. The latter allow you to "dive" deeper into the off-road environment, literally.

The Japanese company has prepared a modification with a sporty focus, TRD Sport. However, it is mostly manifested in the visual component - a different hood design and some other nuances.

The interior also features differences compared to the previous generation. Basic modifications are equipped with 7- and 8-inch instrument panel and multimedia displays, respectively. In more expensive trim levels, the diagonals "grow" to 12,3 and 14 inches.

Additional options include a 10-speaker JBL audio system and a wireless charging pad for smartphones. For an additional fee, the new 4Runner can be equipped with the third generation of the Safety Sense safety package.

Let's move on to the technical part. In the new generation of the SUV, the Japanese decided to please both lovers of "green" energy and fans of more traditional engines. Potential buyers can choose between a gasoline turbo engine and a hybrid power plant.

In the first case, it is a 2,4-liter i-Force. The power of the unit reaches 282 hp with a peak torque of 423 Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission works in tandem with it.


The hybrid modification received a similar engine, which is supplemented by an electric motor. This configuration is not available in all trim levels, but only in the "upper" TRD Pro, Trailhunter and Platinum.

The total power of this version is 331 hp with a torque of 630 Nm. It is noteworthy that the new hybrid has become the most "powerful" modification in the entire history of the model. In addition, this made it possible to increase the maximum load capacity from 2,2 to 2,7 tons.

The power is provided by a 1,87-kilowatt battery. It is made of nickel-metal hydride type. The gearbox is identical to that of the petrol version.
