New Russian vessel Bastion enters service
It has become known that the lead ship of the 04710 project "Sommers" has entered service. This is a catamaran-type ship, which, thanks to a popular vote, bears the proud name "Bastion". It is designed to organize boat trips and excursions along the rivers and canals of the Northern capital of our country, namely, in the waters of the Kronstadt forts. The customer was the shipping company "Neva Travel".
One of the directions is a route that passes by unique defensive structures, the idea of which belongs to Peter I. Departure is from the pier "Island of Forts", located in the museum and historical park complex of the same name.

The new vessel will also reportedly be used for excursions to drawbridges. The catamaran with passengers will depart to the designated location both during the day and at night.
"Bastion" has the following dimensions:
✅ length - 27,3 m
✅ width - 7,5 m
✅ height - 5,2 m
✅ draft - 1,8 m
All vessels of this project are distinguished by the best maneuverability characteristics, thanks to which they can pass to the most inaccessible locations, including the most isolated fort "Kronshlot". It is currently undergoing restoration and should open for visits in 2026.
The passenger capacity of the vessel is designed to accommodate 145 people. They will be provided with the maximum level of comfort during the trip, including: large panoramic windows, soft chairs, air conditioning split-system, bar, exit to the open deck. The average speed of the new catamaran is within 20 km/h.

The construction of the Bastion was carried out by specialists from the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant in St. Petersburg. The ship was laid down last summer and launched in May of this year. In total, three more vessels will be built within the framework of the Sommers project, with the delivery date scheduled for no later than 2025. There is hope that, as a result of the assessment of operating costs, the catamaran may prove to be in demand on other routes, which means that production of the series may well continue.
