Russia launched a space cargo ship into orbit - everything is going according to plan

The Russian spacecraft was successfully launched and put into orbit today. Now Progress MS-28 is following a given course - towards the International Space Station. Docking with the ISS is scheduled for August 17.

The “spaceship” has already separated from the launch vehicle, or more precisely, from its third stage. The operation went according to the planned scenario, without emergencies or emergencies. It will take almost two days for the space truck to reach the station.

Progress MS-28 will linger in orbit, and for a long time. According to the press service of Roscosmos, he will stay there for about 180 days. It is not yet clear why exactly. Perhaps the astronauts will use it for their own purposes, or it is simply necessary to carefully prepare for the return of the cargo ship on Earth. After all, equipment is expensive, no one wants to damage it due to excessive haste.

The path of Progress MS-28 to the ISS, according to preliminary estimates, will last more than fifty and a half hours. During this time, the “truck” must make 34 orbits around our planet.

The spacecraft will deliver the equipment and necessary equipment needed for the uninterrupted operation of the station and carrying out all planned scientific experiments. Among the 1,2 tons of cargo are clothing and food. The astronauts will also receive sanitary and hygiene products.

The ISS also needs fuel for refueling - there are 28 kg of it on board the Progress MS-950. The astronauts are also expecting 420 kilograms of water.

The International Station also needs to replenish its nitrogen reserves. It is vital for creating an artificial atmosphere. The “truck” will bring 50 kg of nitrogen for these purposes.

Without Progress MS-28, it will be impossible to carry out a new experiment called “All Sky Monitor”. The ship is carrying a special X-ray spectrometer and other necessary equipment. It will be installed on the Zvezda module from the outside.

Let us remind you that there are currently nine people on the ISS. Three of them are Russian cosmonauts, and six are NASA astronauts.

The launch of the launch vehicle took place today at 6:20 a.m. from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The equipment was thoroughly checked before this, and the ship was allowed to refuel. Take-off and insertion into orbit passed without incident.
