European ban on conventional ICE vehicles postponed again

The Euro 7 pollution standard, which was due to be finalized in April 2022, has been moved to July. Ecologists and representatives of the Transport & Environment group are concerned - this is the second delay.

The proposal for Euro 7 was originally going to be accepted at the end of 2021. According to the new rules, the level of emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere must be reduced so that the production of cars with traditional internal combustion engines in the form in which they are assembled now will be impossible.

Automakers will have to redesign engines to comply with Euro 7 regulations, or abandon them in favor of hybrids and electric cars. The Euro 7 environmental standard was to come into force in 2025. But now, due to another postponement of the final proposal, the deadlines are more blurred.

The disruption to the planned schedule has alarmed European human rights and industry groups. They believe that this may happen again and the timing of the entry into force of the Euro-7 standard will be shifted by a few more years.

Automakers are also closely monitoring the development of the situation, but they are more comfortable with this state of affairs. Few people want to switch to the production of hybrids and electric cars completely, but the legislation of European countries simply forces them to do so.

Automakers also do not want to be in a “suspended state,” nor do they want to improve engines to meet Euro-7 standards. For example, Nissan recently announced that it was ceasing work on developing new internal combustion engines. To produce small-capacity cars with such engines it will simply be unprofitable and unpromising.

What exactly will be the environmental standard Euro-7 - it will become clear after the adoption of the final position. When the project was presented in 2020, automakers immediately stated that in this form it would ban traditional internal combustion engines.

The document was later revised, and the AGVES advisory group presented a new version, more loyal.

The postponement of the adoption of the final provision of the Euro-7 standard means only one thing - automakers are not going to give up. In the course are connections, authority, public opinion. It's no secret that ordinary European drivers are against abandoning cars with traditional internal combustion engines.

It will be known in July 7 how tough the Euro-2022 standard will be to the standards for emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. Unless, of course, the deadlines are rescheduled again.
