Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4x4 Squared Prototype Ready for Production, Coming in 2023

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class could get a lot tougher with an updated version. This is what a cool SUV in the 4x4 Squared version looks like in the future.

An advanced German brand is already ready to offer its fans something special. But so far, no statements have been made about this. Representatives of the company did not even officially announce that work was underway on the new G550 4x4 Squared.

It is all the more surprising that the prototype is almost ready for serial production. Maybe it's all about the desire to produce the effect of an exploding bomb and draw maximum attention to the new product? It is difficult to say so far, especially since it was not possible to hide the sewing in the bag.

Thanks to the efforts of car paparazzi, it was possible to get a photo and video of the G550 4x4 Squared with the same portal axles as the previous generation model. There is a top roof rack and the already familiar wheel arch extensions. But the front part is still hidden from prying eyes. Should we expect any changes in its design compared to its predecessor? We will get an answer to this question pretty soon.

Borrowed from the military

All of the above adaptations were borrowed from the army version of the jeep from the G-class version with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. Subsequently, its civilian version was also proposed. But its release was strictly limited.

The G550 4x4 Squared had over 17 inches of ground clearance. The available pirated material suggests that the same will be true for the new generation. Portal axles change the way wheels are attached. Instead of being mounted on axles, they are lowered by portal transmissions. This allows you to significantly increase the height of the clearance and, as a result, the cross-country ability of the car. Recall that the current G550 has under the hood:

? 416 l. With.
? 4 liter engine
? 8 cylinders
? twin turbo

The classic set is complemented by a 9-speed automatic transmission. Most likely, this time Mercedes-Benz AMG will have the opportunity to offer its version based on the G63.

If you can’t wait to be among the first to park an updated jeep at your own entrance, you will have to prepare a fairly impressive amount. The previous model cost about 226 thousand dollars. Given the improvements, the updated version will be an order of magnitude more expensive. We expect to see an official presentation in late summer or autumn. Everything suggests that the new model is being prepared for production no earlier than 2023. By the way, it is likely that in parallel we will see a restyling of the usual G-class. How much the models will overlap in design decisions remains a question.
Do you think the restyling of the model will be worth the money?
