Return to life of the old "Seagull"

Many Soviet car enthusiasts, if they had the opportunity, would gladly put a Chaika in their garage. But, back then, it was unrealistic – car was prohibited from free sale, being a brand of national importance.

Such a car today would be classified as a luxury, premium class. It is not surprising that many connoisseurs of auto antiquity still admire its parameters. The first prototype car "Seagull" was released in 1957, just a year from its "progenitor" - the representative "Packard". Two years later, mass production was already established and the cars began to reach their users.

Yes, yes, that's right! Not the owners, but the users. Because the car was provided to those holding middle and higher government positions for the time the person held it. It's no surprise that in 1985, at the height of perestroika, the Chaika was recognized as a "special car for the party apparatus" and production was stopped due to the fight against privileges.

However, some of these vehicles were in the Special Purpose Garage (SGA). This special structure accumulated cars for the first persons and statesmen of the highest echelon. In addition to the usual government ZILs, there were "Seagulls" here. So to speak, for officials of lower rank.

After the above-mentioned ban, one of the drivers of the GNO was able to "privatize" the Chaika-14, which he himself drove. More than three decades have passed, and his son decided to revive the abandoned rarity. To do this, a specialist was called in and a very interesting video of the entire process was filmed for the ILDAR AUTO-SELECTION channel. We invite lovers of cars and their return to life to enjoy watching!
Which is better: "Seagull" or modern executive cars?
