Volkswagen says goodbye to the most popular engine in Brazil

Volkswagen was forced to announce that it was phasing out the production of a 1,6-liter gasoline engine in Brazil. It's all about the tightened rules for emissions into the atmosphere of the Proconve L7.

Brazil is a country that does not have a high standard of living for its citizens, so cheap ones are popular here. cars in the most basic configurations. As practice shows, some local drivers earn enough to afford a car from the showroom.

Volkswagen cars are very popular in the country. As for the choice of engines, local consumers have an approach that is familiar to many Russians. They tend to buy a car with a simple gasoline aspirated, which in the event of a breakdown can be easily repaired on their own.

The most popular Volkswagen engine produced in Brazil until recently is the EA111. The line includes two engines with a volume of 1,6 liters for 8 and 16 valves.

Brazilian drivers love and respect these power units - they are reliable, easily care for 500 km without major repairs.
But after the Proconve L7 emissions regulations came into effect, the EA111 range engines are no longer offered to customers. Now cars will be sold with TSI engines with a working volume of 1 liter.

Of course, hot Brazilian guys are against turbocharged liter units that are clearly not designed for such runs as the EA111. Yes, and gasoline will now have to be filled with a high octane number.

Eight-valve EA111 engines developed 101 hp. s, sixteen-valve - 120 liters. With. This was enough for budget cars sold on the local market, like the Gol and Voyage.

In addition to the engines of the EA111 line, Volkswagen had to modify other engines. For example, the 1.4 turbo 250 TSI received a modified engine management system, that is, it was simply "strangled" by electronics. The same improvements are now in the 3,0 Volkswagen Amarok V6 turbodiesel and the 2,0 Jetta GLI gasoline engine.

But for now, in Brazilian Volkswagen showrooms, you can buy cars with old reliable EA111 power units. Under the Proconve L7 rules, motors that do not meet the new environmental standards could be produced until the end of 2021.

So until they are all sold, cars will be equipped with simple aspirated. Therefore, Volkswagen publicly recommends to all Brazilians who wanted a car with an EA111 line engine to hurry up with the purchase.
And how do you feel about the care of old naturally aspirated engines?
